Travel Information Getting Around Bratislava is in Central Europe in a triangle of 3 capital cities: Vienna is only 60 km away, Prague 300 km and Budapest 200 km. Whether you fly, arrive by boat along the River Danube, or by car or train, getting there is quick and easy. Airlines and Airports If you decide to fly in, you can choose between two international airports – the M. R. Štefánik airport in Bratislava or Schwechat airport in Vienna. Bratislava airport. Currently (as of Nov. 2009) there are scheduled services to/from: Moscow (Aerofolt), Stockholm (Ryanair), Edinburgh (Ryanair), Dublin (Ryanair), Manchester (Danube Wings), Birmingham (Ryanair), London (Ryanair), Bristol (Ryanair), Paris (Ryanair), Milan (Ryanair), Prague (Czech airlines), Košice (Danube Wings), Rome (Ryanair, Wizz Air), Tel Aviv (Sun D´Or), Barcelona (Ryanair), Bergamo (Ryanair), Basel – Mulhouse (Danube Wings), Bologna (Danube Wings, Ryanair), Pisa (Ryanair), Liverpool (Ryanair) and Brussels (Danube Wings). Bratislava airport is 9 km from the city. The center can be reached either by taxi (average fee of 25 EUR) or by regular public transport (bus line number 61), which connects the airport with the main train station. Vienna airport Schwechat This major European hub is serviced by vast number of airlines with direct connections to the most of European cities as well as overseas destinations. Schwechat airport in Vienna is about 45 km from Bratislava. In addition to taxis there is a regular bus shuttle service to Bratislava. The bus stop is the front of arrival hall at the left side. Trains from Vienna (service at least every hour) often arrive at the Bratislava – Petržalka station south of the city center across the Danube River. The Bratislava Main Railway Station is a 10-minute walk from the centre. Bus and Car Travel Bratislava is connected to the surrounding capitals by international motorways. The D2 motorway connects Slovakia with Hungary and Czech Republic. The international E58 rout links to Austria and E65 to Hungary. The D1 and D2 motorways are linked up by the ring road on the Petržalka side of the River Danube. Taxis Taxi service is still cheap by Western standards. There are more than 20 licensed taxi companies in Bratislava. It is cheaper to order a taxi by phone than to hail one on the street. Public Transport In Bratislava, there is a dense network of public transport lines running in regular intervals according to schedule.
